The ‘Imagine a Garden in Every School‘ campaign has posted a new short survey (it should take less than 5 minutes to fill out). This survey is seeking more responses to the information gathered during the Edible Education Network’s Action Planning process, with the aim of documenting successes and sharing knowledge about common challenges to increase the effectiveness of school garden programs in Ontario.
If you are a participant in a school garden in Ontario, please considering filling out the survey here before February 15th, 2014 to be entered in a draw to win a $100 gift certificate from Urban Harvest or 30 Mark Cullen children’s trowels. (If you have already completed the ‘gardens’ part of the Edible Education Network Action Planning survey, you will also be entered in the draw!)
Founded through a collaboration between Green Thumbs Growing Kids, FoodShare and Sustain Ontario, ‘Imagine a Garden in Every School’ aims to connect and support schools in Ontario undertaking garden projects. The campaign will seek change at the grass roots, municipal, board, regional and provincial levels.
Encouraging children to garden can provide a multitude of benefits and skills across a broad range of disciplines, from health and nutrition, to science, math and art. School gardens give students a hands-on opportunity to learn about ecosystems and their local food system.
