On June 15, the Vineland Grower’s Co-Operative Ltd. celebrated their 100th anniversary, with approximately 1000 guests attending the celebration and ceremony. In attendance was Tim Hudack, MPP of Niagara West-Glanbrook, and Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario and Minister of Agriculture and Food.

Wynne congratulated the Co-Operative, saying, “The talent in this community is obvious, it’s thriving, it is something we in Ontario and the agri-food sector need to be proud of .”

The Premier also addressed Bill C-36, the Local Food Act, which she hopes will be passed when the Ontario Legislature resumes in the fall: “It is a symbol of what I believe we need to do and that is to invest in and shine a light on and tell the story about local food in this province.” Wynne highlighted the importance of the Ontario agri-food sector to the economy, which contributes 34 billion dollars to the national GDP and provides over 700 000 jobs in Ontario.
