On the 10th of April 2012, the Conseil de la coopération de l’Ontario (CCO) announced important funding of $72 500 to organize awareness and training workshops on the co-operative model applied to agri-food and rural development. After many consultations, we are delighted to reveal the communities and institutions where workshops will be held throughout Ontario:
Eastern region: Pembroke, Vankleek Hill and Guelph University’s Alfred Campus in Alfred
Central and Southwestern region: Perkinsfield, St-Catharines, Bracebridge and Whitby
Northern region: Hearst, North Bay, Manitoulin Island, New Liskeard and Algoma University’s NORDIK Institute in Sault Ste-Marie
The bilingual workshops will take place this fall. Specific dates and locations will be announced for each community and more information will be posted on our social networks, our website www.cco.coop and with our partners.
Through these workshops, we will discuss the principles, values, and the governance of the co-operative model and explain how it differs from conventional enterprises. We will also discuss the added values of the co-operative model as well as its many business opportunities for economic sectors such as agriculture and rural development, immigration and youth entrepreneurship, business succession planning and more.
We would like, again, to be grateful to the Agricultural Management Institute (AMI) for its important financial contribution to this project, through which, the CCO will promote co-op models as innovative succession planning practices and as sources of added values for rural enterprises. The AMI is part of the Best Practices Suite of programs for Growing Forward in Ontario, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative.
