The Stop is looking for a full-time Community Cooking Coordinator
The Community Kitchen Coordinator works with a professional, cooperative team of people to provide programs for low-income and marginalized community members from a range of demographic groups to build their food skills and knowledge, with the ultimate aim of reducing social isolation and building health. We offer cooking workshops and community kitchens at both our 1884 Davenport and Green Barn locations. We are looking for someone who is passionate and creative about sharing their knowledge of good food, is skilled at facilitating diverse groups in a supportive cooking environment and takes pride in running an organized, welcoming kitchen.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement community kitchen programs and workshops at two sites
- Take the lead on developing learning objectives and resource materials that would support all cooking programs
- Create a safe, welcoming and constructive environment for program participants
- Maintain high standards for cleanliness, food safety and organization with a team of program coordinators, students and volunteers
- Coordinate food purchases for Green Barn programs
- Ensure kitchen supplies are well-stocked and equipment is maintained in good order
- Conduct outreach
- Orient and supervise program volunteers and students
- Develop and implement tracking tools and program evaluations
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to cook healthy, tasty and easy-to-prepare food in a professional setting
- Experience maintaining a clean, functional and organized kitchen in a busy, multi-user environment
- Knowledge of healthy eating and food skills
- Ability to teach food skills and foster a positive attitude towards healthy, sustainable food in a way that inspires people to change their food practices
- Experience with group facilitation
- Knowledge of food-related issues for people experiencing poverty, poor health and discrimination
- Self-motivated and able to work constructively as a member of a team
- Excellent interpersonal, facilitation and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse community (people of different ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds)
- Experience with program coordination in a social services setting
- Valid driver’s licence
- Ability to speak a language relevant to the neighbourhood is an asset
Salary: $21.40 per hour plus benefits
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Start date: Immediately
