Over the past three decades, The Stop Community Food Centre has transformed from one of North America’s first food banks to a vibrant community food centre in one of Toronto’s lowest-income, most diverse neighbourhoods. Among the programs offered are community kitchens and gardens, cooking classes, healthy drop-in meals, peri-natal support, a food bank, outdoor bake ovens, food markets, and civic engagement initiatives. The Stop’s mission is to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds community and challenges inequality.

Position Summary

The Stop is in the process of developing other Community Food Centres across the country. A pilot project is currently underway, supporting the creation of two new Community Food Centres in Ontario. At the same time, The Stop is working to found a new organization to support the creation of Community Food Centres nationwide. We are now seeking an experienced, dynamic individual to play a unique role in developing and implementing a robust fundraising strategy for the creation of a new organization and movement of Community Food Centres.

Qualifications

• University degree or relevant post-secondary education

• 5+ years’ experience in a fundraising environment, with an emphasis on major and/or corporate gifts

• Demonstrated track record researching, cultivating and soliciting prospective donors

• Knowledge of the social and economic issues underpinning hunger and poverty in Canada, as well as food systems issues

• Excellent written and oral communications skills

• Well-developed interpersonal skills

• Experience working in a national organization an asset

• Strong attention to detail and excellent computer skills

• Flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances

Responsibilities

• Provide advice on overall campaign direction, including solicitation, communications and recognition strategies

• In collaboration with other staff, develop communications materials, including the case for support, website and communications with donors and prospective donors

• Manage the research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and recognition of individual, foundation and corporate donors

• Prepare and format proposals, campaign reports and donor correspondence

• Maintain accurate records of prospect moves and donor activity

• Provide support to senior volunteers and senior staff with regard to gift activity

• Develop targeted solicitation strategies for prospective donors

• Other duties as assigned
