Community from the Latin word communitas ~ cum, “with/togehter” + munas, “gift”
Abundance and hard work is evident as you walk through the pathways of the St. Andrew’s Community Garden. From one garden plot to the next, the plants are flourishing and the personal touches of the owners can be seen. The season has been successful, one full cycle of gardening under the belt with …lessons, insights and memories to share.
Together we have created a space that fosters connectedness, creativity and the cultivation of gifts. People have shared their knowledge, supported their neighbors and worked together to keep the garden growing. The plot owners have been open and available to others; this is what community looks like
With community comes risk and this garden has had it’s challenges, from veggie high-jackers to vandalism the project has been tested through-out the season. What makes St. Andrew’s Community Garden successful is how the challenges are handled. By working together the owners have and will find solutions, laying the ground work for further gardens through-out Ajax.
Celebrate, be proud of the harvest ~ the sense of community this space has nurtured. The personal stories that have been shared and the friendships that have developed are priceless, after-all it’s the simple things in life, the connections with others that matter most.
