Sustain Ontario, a project of Tides Canada Initiatives, promotes a collaborative approach to research, policy development and action by addressing the intersecting issues related to healthy food and local sustainable agriculture. We are looking for a Program Coordinator. If two suitable candidates seeking part-time work are found for this position, it can be a job-share position.
Sustain Ontario advocates for a food system that is healthy, ecological, equitable and financially viable. The Sustain Ontario’s Program Coordinator will work to strengthen Ontario’s farm and food networks, showcase food system innovations and champions, and press for farm and food policy reform.
The Ideal Candidate: Feels passionately about local food issues in Ontario and their connection to the environment, economy and health of Canadians. You have a deep understanding of the issues facing the farm and food sector and previous experience working within the networks and organizations that tackle food issues in Ontario. Is good at engaging people and reaching out. You like people and are able to communicate in many ways to diverse audiences. You are an excellent writer and researcher. You have a keen sense of what messages will be compelling to different audiences and are excellent at communicating them. Knows how to organize events. You have organized a range of events, are detail oriented, and have learned how to plan ahead for a smooth and successful gathering. At the same time, you are flexible and creative, and know how to problem solve when new challenges arise. Has learned how to work with diverse groups. You know how to engage people and keep them working together. Through your experience organizing and coordinating groups of people, you have become adept at keeping initiatives moving forward and addressing differing points of view. Works well with new technology. You adapt well to new programs and new developments in technology. You are capable of problem solving and of finding tools to meet your needs.
Qualifications:
Experience working in the healthy, local, sustainable food sector.
Experience organizing events.
Experience in community organizing, team coordination, or management.
Experience with media relations.
Experience in advertising, promotion, outreach and engagement including through social media.
Experience working both as a team and independently.
Ability to engage and coordinate a diverse group of stakeholders.
Ability to work easily with new communications technologies.
A background that enables you understand and articulate the interrelationship between food, health, agriculture, equity, economy and sustainability.
Knowledge of Ontario’s farm and food sector, issues and policies.
Superior written and verbal communication skills.
French language fluency an asset.
Sustain Ontario, as a project of Tides Canada Initiatives, offers a competitive salary of 34-39k for this position. The position is complete with good benefits including flexible working hours. The ideal candidate will be able to travel around the province. Candidates are not required to work in Toronto.
