We are happy to announce that Karen Hutchinson, a member of the Sustain Ontario Steering Committe, was honoured at the annual Zonta Women of Achievement ceremony in November.  Karen is the Executive Director of the Caledon Countryside Alliance (CCA) and has aided in the creation of the Grown in Peel Guide, the Eat Local Caledon movement and two Farmers’ Markets and volunteers on several committees.

Karen described her reasons for her high level of commitment to food and agriculture issues in an article with The Caledon Enterprise: “I think that the farming system needs to be repowered because we have farmers with net negative incomes. It’s really difficult for a family to farm and have that be their only income and that’s wrong. Here are people who grow our food and sustain our lives, and they can’t make a decent income doing it. That’s why I think we need to repower.”
