What it means to be a Member

Things looking a bit different?
Nope, you're not on the wrong site – we're updating our look and content! Keep your eyes peeled for more changes!

Do you want to be part of a province-wide Ontario voice for support of food and farming systems that are healthy, equitable, ecological and financially viable?

Join others working in the food, health and agriculture sectors to let our governments and other organizations know what we think it will take to transform Ontario’s food system.  Together we work towards change.

Sustain Ontario members form the heart of our alliance.  Members identify emerging and continuing priorities, set policy directions and inform the agenda for the Sustain Ontario alliance.

Membership is open to:

  • food and/or farming non-profit organizations
  • businesses that are owned by Ontarians or that have substantial activity in Ontario

Part of the Members’ work must include food and/or farming.

Individuals or organizations who do not meet the criteria for membership may become Associate Members by making an annual contribution. They receive all benefits of membership except for voting rights. Associate Members are welcomed to participate as non-voting members in meetings and other Sustain Ontario activities.

Members and Associate Members make annual Membership contributions and pledge the following:

We commit to working collaboratively with diverse groups from across the province to help create productive, equitable and sustainable food and farming systems that support the health and well-being of all people in Ontario.”

Members and Associate Members are asked to make an annual membership contribution to support Alliance activities. We suggest the following fees for organizations, groups and businesses. Contribution amounts are based upon your organization’s annual budget or business’s gross revenue, or that of the specific department or project signing up as a Member.

Why become a Member?

Sustain Ontario, the Alliance for Healthy Food and Farming, is building on its past activities and strengthening its ability to:

1. Provide a strong voice for policy advice and advocacy to inform government and other actors in the movement to transform the food system, based on its membership’s work, views and interests.

2. Maintain a learning environment where Alliance members can connect and develop skills with one another and from leading-edge work happening in other jurisdictions.

3. Act as a resource and aggregator of thought, information, views and analysis on building a healthy, equitable, ecological and financially viable food system in Ontario.
