The Nutrition Resource Centre under OPHA is a not-for-profit member-based organization that is focused on advancing public health within the Province of Ontario and has played a key public health leadership role for over 67 years. OPHA is looking for a dynamic and experienced Communications Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager, Nutrition Resource Centre (NRC), the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of the coordination and implementation of key strategic communication initiatives.

Position Title: Communications Coordinator Duration: Permanent Full Time (5 days/week)

Location: OPHA Office, 44 Victoria St, Toronto – some travel in Ontario may be required

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and implements all aspects of strategic communication initiatives
  • Develops, writes and coordinates online, email, social media, materials and campaigns
  • Manages content across all digital assets including website and design, databases and social media profiles through creative engagement strategies to increase awareness of activities, products and services
  • Uses expertise and leadership to advise team on how products and services are best packaged and communicated for knowledge translation, exchange and dissemination
  • Initiates and responds to requests from news media to provide OPHA with proactive and reactive media opportunities
  • Participates in strategic and operational planning at the program and organizational levels
  • Participates in development and implementation of evaluation to assess the impact of knowledge exchange communication-related activities
  • Facilitates communication and maintains relationships with NRC stakeholders and partners including academics, researchers and health promotion practitioners
  • Develops a comprehensive communication plan to ensure communications for events are coordinated, implemented and evaluated effectively

Knowledge and Skills

  • Expertise in nutrition communications and using evidence for best practices
  • Familiarity with social media best practices, website design and content management
  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Nutrition/Public Health Communications, Knowledge Translation or related discipline and 3-5 years of experience in knowledge management communications work
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) designation and membership with Dietitians of Canada would be an asset
  • Familiarity in population health (preferred)
  • Superior oral and written communications to respond to issues, prepare and present reports, briefing notes and materials and presentations
  • Excellent analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills
  • Excellent project management and interpersonal skills
