Earlier this month, the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) 2016 Summit in Copenhagen saw the launch of the first ever global standard by which to measure food loss and food waste. According to the World Resources Institute, global food waste and loss cost up to $940 billion every year, and contribute 8% of greenhouse gas emissions. The Food Loss and Waste Accounting and Reporting Standard is geared towards countries, cities and companies, so that they may quantify their waste using a consistent framework, and develop strategies to address food loss and waste accordingly.
