Y U Ranch® proprietor Bryan Gilvesy was named among 17 Farmer Heroes for Sustainability, Equality, and Defense of Traditions by U.S.-based not-for-profit, FoodTank whose work is focused on “building a global community for safe, healthy, nourished eaters.”

FoodTank recognized seventeen farmers from eleven countries around the world for their work to support innovation, sustainability, the environment, and local economy.  In honouring Bryan Gilvesy, Food Tank noted his role as ecological agriculture champion in Ontario, the sustainable ranching practices of Y U Ranch, and his active work with Alternative Land Use Services (ALUS), which supports farmers in restoring and preserving natural resources throughout Canada.

A commitment to sustainability marks nearly every aspect of operations at Y U Ranch from their choice of Texas Longhorn and grass varieties to their custom retro-fitted freezer van.  For their work, the Gilvesy family and Y U Ranch have received other recognition including environmental awards from Beef Farmers of Ontario, Tillsonburg Chamber of Commerce as well as the Premier’s Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence.

Brian Gilvesy and Y U Ranch have been involved with Sustain Ontario as member and in leadership roles helping to build stronger and more sustainable food systems in Ontario.
