Sustain 4Bring Food Home, Ontario’s biennial sustainable food systems conference, is looking for a Provincial Chairperson.

About You:
You are knowledgeable about Ontario’s Food Systems and passionate about making them more healthy, equitable, ecological and financially viable. You bring a full food systems perspective, from seed to plate and from grassroots to government. You understand the many challenges and solutions within our food systems. As a result of your work to date, you know many changemakers from different regions and sectors from across the province.

Your creativity and inspiration help to bring great ideas to the initiatives you undertake, while your experience with management, network building and events makes your ideas feasible and manageable.

You have attended at least one of the Bring Food Home Conferences, and are excited to make the next conference even more of a success. In addition to wanting to make a great program, you also have some great ideas and connections that you think can help make the conference affordable and accessible, while also a financial success.

You are a member or supporter of Sustain Ontario, or in the process of becoming one.

Your Role:
In the past, efforts have been made to organize the Bring Food Home Conference in a multi-committee structure. Based on recommendations from the 2013 organizing team, we are taking a new approach for the 2015 conference. Instead of multiple committees, there will be one BFH committee composed of several local leads, the Provincial chair and Sustain Ontario staff. The committee may seek out partners or volunteers on an ad hoc basis. The role of the chair is to bring grounded, province-wide perspectives to ensure that Bring Food Home meets the needs of Ontario’s food and farming change-makers.

The chair will help select the conference theme, design the program and support fundraising efforts. As Chair, you will help make key decisions about the conference. You will work with Sustain Ontario’s staff team, the Local Chair and local committee.

Throughout the planning period, you can expect to spend an average of 4 hours a week engaged in conference related activities.

What you get:

In addition to knowing that you’re making this conference a terrific event, you will be given special recognition in the program and (unless you really hate public speaking) you will open and close the conference with the local chair.  Your organization (should you be associated with one) will be recognized as a presenting partner in all conference promotions. Costs for the Chair to attend the conference including travel, registration and feast tickets will be paid by Sustain Ontario.

To apply:

Please send an expression of interest to bringfoodhome@sustainontario.ca by December 5, 2014 answering the following questions in less than 500 words

1) Why do you wish to be BFH Chair?

2) Why are you best qualified to chair the 2015 conference?

3) What special interests, ideas, connections or experience to you bring to the committee?

4) How will you ensure you have the capacity to commit to this project over the next year?

We look forward to reviewing your applications!
