Nishnawve Aski nation (NAN), was known as Grand Council Treaty No.9 until 1983 and was established in 1973. It represents the legitimate, socioeconomic and political aspirations of its First Nation members of Northen Ontario to all levels of government to allow local self-determination while establishing spiritual, cultural, social, and economic independence. All information comes directly from NAN’s website.

NAN plays a role in food security as they work with its First Nation Communities to restore locally produced food that is integral to resilient ecosystems and development of sustainable economies. In a time of peak oil and climate change, compounded by the epidemic of diet-related illnesses, such as diabetes, the restoration of our traditional foods is essential for survival.”
