Interested in learning the basic principles of water conservation and wetland restoration through case studies, field exercises and group work? This combination five day course in the classroom and in the field will allow you to visit and study drained and undrained wetlands throughout Eastern Ontario.
Who should attend?
The course is designed for conservation authority, government agency staff, municipal planners, drainage personnel, environmental consultants, engineers, stewardship organizations and landscape architects. Those who are currently or will be involved in wetland restoration projects, or those who are or will be involved in Source Water Protection Planning would benefit greatly from this course! Additionally, biologists, hydrologists, engineers, stewardship coordinators, technicians, managers, landowners; and anyone involved in work and decision making around wetlands or wetland restoration would also benefit.
What’s it all about?
The first course of this nature was developed by representatives from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment Canada, Trent University and Ducks Unlimited. The course has recently been updated with new material, field sites, reflecting changes in wetland restoration theories and techniques. All information provided comes directly from their website.
This course is unique in that it is very collaborative. Success and failures in wetland restoration are viewed and discussed with landowners, stakeholders and site managers who can share their experiences first hand. Those who sign up can engage in group learning through field exercises and presentations.
Various types of restorations in a range of management situations are examined throughout the course. At each site visited, and on the road, challenging exercises for participants will be undertaken to encourage a learning atmosphere!
