On Wednesday, April 26, Social Planning Toronto is honouring the estimable Debbie Field with a Frances Lankin Award, an award given out annually to someone who has made a significant, sustained contribution to the non-profit community sector in Toronto.

For over 40 years, Debbie has demonstrated a commitment to social justice, gender equity, and food security.

Among her many achievements, Debbie’s concern about a lack of healthy food in schools led her to become FoodShare’s Executive Director in 1992 after organizing the Coalition for Student Nutrition. This Torontoist article, This Woman Has Been a Leader in Toronto Food Security, explains how Debbie’s incredible leadership turned FoodShare into the largest food security charity in North America.

This year’s reception is taking place at Daniels Spectrum (585 Dundas St E). Those interested in celebrating Debbie, and her co-recipient Sunder Singh, may RSVP and purchase tickets online here.
