Sustain Ontario is excited to announce the release of its third toolkit, Opportunities for Growth: An Urban Agriculture Toolkit! The toolkit is now available online as a resource for municipal governments, urban growers, planners and organizations to help advocate for policies that support urban agriculture. With examples of different forms of urban agriculture, case studies from municipalities around the province and tools for enacting change in communities, the toolkit prepares readers to take positive steps toward creating communities that support and incorporate urban agriculture practices.

Approximately 15% of the world’s food is grown in urban areas. There is a need to address the policy barriers that many urban growers face to accommodate for the increasing interest in urban agriculture practices. This toolkit brings together voices from across the province and shares different urban agriculture experiences in order to provide urban growers with support for their own projects.

This toolkit follows the release of our previous two toolkits, Local Sustainable Food Procurement in Municipalities and the Broader Public Sector and Reducing Household Food Waste: A Municipal Regional Toolkit. It is the third in the series of projects funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. All three toolkits are available in our online resource collection, Food Initiatives Greenhouse.

We value your feedback! Please let us know what you think so we can create more resources that will help you impact Ontario’s food systems.
