Following initial consultations with the food industry and health care sector, the Ontario government has begun extended consultations on menu labelling legislation.  By providing more information on food labels, including calories and nutritional information, the provincial government aims to help children and families make healthier food choices.

Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care seeks advice on how to limit the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages targeted at children, including the media and telecommunications industry.  These consultations will include input from parents and representatives from food and beverage manufacturing, agriculture, restaurant, food service, food retail and health sectors.

These efforts play a central role in Ontario’s Healthy Kids Panel by making healthier food choices easier for children and families.  They are also a part of the provincial government’s commitment to an economic plan that invests in people, infrastructure, and business.
