Please join us for “Charting the Future of Food Exploring the Greater Sudbury Food Charter”, an interactive workshop about Greater Sudbury’s Food Charter. Your ideas are valuable in making Greater Sudbury a place with zero hunger, healthy food choices, local food resources, and a sustainable environment.
Two identical workshops will be held at Tom Davies Square on May 5th at 5:00 – 8:00 pm (Boardroom C&D) or May 6th at 1:30 – 4:30 pm (Council Chambers).
Through much community collaboration the Greater Sudbury Food Charter was developed and passed by city council in 2004. The Food Charter outlines how the city will promote food security for all of Sudbury’s citizens. You may view the Food Charter at the Sudbury and District Health Unit website: click here. The city has committed to ensuring that nutritious, safe food is available for all people to access with dignity at all times. The Food Charter also supports food production, distribution, and consumption that is environmentally and economically sustainable.
Your assistance is needed to help develop a plan for putting the Food Charter into action. Please come and participate in this exciting opportunity not only to learn about the Food Charter and find out about the food resources that already exist in Sudbury but also to share your ideas about how the Food Charter can work for you and to identify the types of programs and projects that will make the most impact on food security here in Greater Sudbury. The Food Charter demonstrates a commitment for change and already some positive steps have been taken; the time is now to move forward with more initiatives.
Your input is valuable to us and we hope you will join us for the workshop. Please feel free to notify others that you feel would be interested in this opportunity. We ask that you register at goodfoodbox@spcsudbury.ca or by phone (705) 521-6717 (Eat Local Sudbury) by May 3rd as food will be served at the event.
