Sustain Holiday header squareSustain Ontario is looking for summer job candidates with passion for healthy food and farming along with marketing and communications skills to help strengthen outreach and support to our Ontario­-wide network of members.  This is a 10-16 week, $15/hr summer job opportunity conditional upon funding.  Candidates must be 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.

Working approximately 35 hours per week with Sustain Ontario staff in the Toronto office, the Membership Support team member will:

  • Contribute to sustainable, healthy and financially viable local food and farming through use of critical thinking and writing skills to communicate about events, initiatives and research;
  • Strengthen organization’s outreach and support to its Ontario­wide network of members working in diverse communities through communication of member events;
  • Improve membership services by updating member profiles and building directories using CRM program;
  • Provide direct service to Members from diverse communities by responding to inquiries, connecting them to activities, resources, and networks to help them better respond to community food and farming issues;
  • Increase knowledge of food issues and engage directly with members and wider public by accompanying Sustain Ontario staff at events.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on marketing ­ and customer service experience.   The team member will hone communications skills writing a variety of business messages using social media and other tools.  She or he will collaborate with communications professionals and with food, farming, and health sector professionals.

Skills & Qualities

We’re excited to hear from individuals with awareness of food and farming issues who can demonstrate a mix of these skills and qualities:

  • Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative in learning and who works well both independently and collaboratively
  • Full-time students intending to return to studies in the next school year
  • Post-secondary study in: communications and marketing, food and nutritional sciences, urban or rural planning, environmental studies, or related fields
  • Strong written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with CRM, WordPress, Google, Campaign Monitor, social media
  • Access to a laptop computer an asset though not required
  • Experience in graphic design, marketing and/or event planning  an asset
  • Ability to write in French an asset
