From Ontario Home Economics Association (OHEA):

The OHEA is petitioning  the Government of Ontario to make ‘at least one’ Food & Nutrition Course mandatory in schools. The call is based on the premise that many of the essential skills including food budgeting, understanding food labels and reducing food waste, that are taught as part of Family Studies curricula in high schools are not accessed because they aren’t compulsory.  The result is that a number of children today do not know how to prepare healthful meals at home. As such, the OHEA believes that courses in Food and Nutrition need to be prioritized.
