Fortier Farmstart

From FarmStart, a Sustain Ontario Member:

If you could make $100, 000 per year-growing vegetables on 1.5 acres, no tractor, minimal debt, selling healthy environmentally responsible produce, and take the winters off – would you consider farming? In his book The Market Gardener Jean-Martin Fortier, describes how he has succeeded in farming and shares his techniques.

Fortier and his wife Maude-Hélène Desroches are the founders of Les Jardins de la Grelinette, an internationally recognized micro-farm known for its high productivity and profitability using low-tech, high-yield methods of production. Fortier will be presenting the story of how he and his family are enjoying the alternative lifestyle of micro-scale farming on Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Center for Social Innovation, Regent Park Lounge, 585 Dundas Street East, Toronto, from 7:30pm-9:30pm.

Purchase tickets online.

The presentation will be preceded by an Urban Aggie Potluck Dinner from 5:30pm-7:30pm as a way for fellow urban farmers and gardeners to meet. To RSVP for the potluck, email Rebecca at rebecca@farmstart.ca by April 20th.

In December 2012, we shared FarmStart’s crowdfunding campaign for the translation of Fortier’s book from French to English. Read our blog post, “Help FarmStart Translate French How-To Guide for Small-Scale Market Farmers.”
