The evolution of civilization is under way. Canadians are opening to change. Most of us know that the consequences of our lifestyles are impactful on the environment and are accelerating.

The time has come to take the dialogue about sustainability to the next level. We can do this in many ways, but it’s the small things in our every day life that add up and can make a big difference.

The Conscious Food Festival is about helping achieve truly sustainable communities. This event is about educating people on something that involves each and every person, every single day…Food!

I think we need to spend some time identifying urban food deserts and developing strategies on how to overcome the challenge of feeding people in those communities. FoodShare has some solutions but there may be others that need to be considered. There is still a lot of vaccant land in the city that could be used for vegetable gardening and we also need to consider finding indoor spaces, particularly in high density high-rise communities, where hydroponic vegetable growing can take place year-round.
